The ladies of golf choose La Sella Open as the best event in Europe
At the 2024 season kickoff ceremony of the LET, that took place in London last Thursday 25th January, La Sella Open was recognised as the best tournament of the year 2023.
The professional circuit players, more than 400 of the best female golf players from all over the world, voted to choose the best tournament among the 29 championships that comprise the European Circuit and take place across the five continents.
To merit this award, La Sella Open, that took place in the golf course of Denia (Alicante), was pitted against other renown events such as Evian Masters and the British Open. It was chosen among other events with higher prizes as those in Saudi Arabia, Sweden or Scotland.
Alexandra Armas, CEO of LET, presented the award to the director of La Sella Golf, Carlos García, who, after thanking the Ladies European Tour and its players for the award, reminded those in attendance that "Denia's tournament motto is A tournament for the ladies, a goal we've fully achieved with this recognition from the players."
The founding mission of La Sella Open is to be a tournament that narrows the differences in social and economic recognition in relation to the men’s DP World Tour. One of the incentives of this tournament is that it offers the greatest ever prize pool in a ladies’ golf tournament in Spain and focuses the four-day competition on the players’ comfort.
Not only LET sponsors such as Adidas, Titleist, Rolex and John Deere, attended the London event, but also tournament promoters from all over the world, from Kenya to Singapore. But the main protagonists of the evening were the players. To that respect, Joao Pinto, the tournament director, said "the greatest virtue of the La Sella Open being awarded is that it's a recognition from the players. Not the political establishment from the different institutions, which is proof that La Sella Open truly is the best tournament in Europe."
Céline Herbin, representing the players, and two-time winner of the circuit, commented: "The key to obtaining this prestigious award is a great course in excellent condition, supported by all the other resort services, with a 5 star hotel by the course and excellent gastronomy, probably the best in the circuit."Back
